Onset,  Acrylic on Glass,  15" Diameter, 2003

Onset - Light brown background on the round surface. A series of fast, thick brushstrokes emanate from the center, creating a burst, like a flower or an explosion. The darkest emanation is at the center, and over it is an almond-shaped eye, iris touching the bottom but not the top curved line, depicting the outer lid. Both the eye and the burst are painted with bold strokes, and the eye is painted in front. The iris is not a complete circle here, but almost forms the shape of the number six, the two edges not quite touching. There is an explosive motion with an eye at the center.
